ST PIRAN’s DAY IN ST JUST
A proposal from Mr Chris Goninan that St Just hold its own St Piran’s Day Parade, has resulted in enthusiastic support, with plans in hand for the first celebration.
Various members of the community will be involved.
It is proposed to parade from the Primary School up to the Plein en Gwary via Market and Bank Square, where a short play about St Piran, and music will be performed by some of the school children. The Parade will be led by the Town Mayor, the Old Cornwall Society, the Scouts and local church ministers, plus miners from Geevor. After the performances in the Plein en Gwary, the Parade will then go down Chapel Street to the Miners’ Chapel for refreshments.
Prior to the day there will be a concert in the Miners’ Chapel on Saturday, 2nd March. The concert begins at 7.30 p.m. Entrance is free, but there will be a raffle and a retiring collection. Cape Singers, Twin Harmony and the St Just Primary School Choir are performing.
The various shops and businesses in the town have been asked to do a window display, and decorate their premises for a competition. The competition will be judged on the 28th February, and certificates to be presented at the concert on the 2nd March. Large flags will be flown from prominent buildings, such as the Town Hall, church etc.
If wet the celebration will take place in the main hall of Cape Cornwall School
The Annual Truro St Piran's Day Parade, organised by Truro OCS with Truro City Council, will take place on March 5th. It will assemble for a 1pm departure from Waterfall Gardens, St George's Road, Truro. All are welcome. It's always fantastic to have as many OCS banners as possible - we will congregrate in High Cross for greetingts, evocations, messages and Trelawny -
I assume that Mathi Clarke will be singing in The White Hart afterwards.
