Helston OCS in St Just
A group from Helston OCS visited St Just today, and it proved to be a most successful and enjoyable occasion.
The group were given a talk in St Just Church by Mrs Gillian Hocking, who is our Vice President and a Church Warden. Our President, Mr Doug Luxford then led us to the first society House of the Methodists, and then to our Medieval Plen-en-Gwary where John Wesley had preached. We were then shown war damage, where a house was destroyed by a German ‘plane landing on it, and down the road damage to the roof of the Sunday School because one of the engines had broken off the ‘plane and landed on the roof.
Our next stop was the huge Wesleyan Chapel where Doug gave a comprehensive description of the history of this iconic building.
A pasty awaited all in the adjoining hall, where everyone settled down to enjoy the excellent pasties and to chat. It was a most successful visit enjoyed by all, and it is to be hoped that future such visits can be enjoyed.
